What is Scrap Gold? Scrap Gold is the term used for the process of recycling scrap gold jewellery, coins and other items that are no longer wanted. Recently, Scrap Gold has become a large industry, driven by the surge in the price of gold and the current global economic climate. Selling scrap gold jewellery has enabled people to liquidate their assets into cash, a more usable currency in modern life.
Why recycle scrap gold? Gold mining has a huge environmental impact, the process of excavating and extracting the gold ore - the raw material from which gold is derived, is very environmentally intensive, involving damaging chemicals such as Cyanide and sulphuric acid.
Gold has long been regarded as a precious metal and has been intensively south for more than two thousand years. Gold is used in everything from jewellery and electronics to food!
So what items are of value? Generally, gold coins, gold watches, gold teeth, gold fillings and precious metal dental scrap will all be suitable and of value. Hallmarked gold, non-hallmarked gold, in small or large quantities are also required. Some items however are not suitable, for example costume jewellery, or gold plated which will have little or no value.
Don't forget, 24 carats pure gold will fetch a far higher price and we are interested in all gold, from 9ct to 24ct.
What is Gold Purity? Gold is measured in grams for weight but in carats for its purity value. A carat (often abbreviated to ct) is the measure of purity, ranging from 9ct to 24ct. 24 carat is considered 99.9% pure gold to a millesimal fineness value of 999, while 12 ct gold is 50% pure alloy. Gold is denoted by Au in the periodic table. For more information about the scientific makeup of Gold can be found here.

How much is my scrap gold worth?
The price of Scrap gold changes daily and is widely effected by the 'real-time' gold price on the open market in your region. You can find the actual gold price through a monitoring site such as www.kitco.com. It's important to note that the price offered for your scrap gold jewellery will be lower than the current gold market price as there is a significant process involved in smelting your gold items into raw gold material.
